Lord, i am your instrument
i wrote this while at a recent prayer event for Fullness DC. a special thanks to all the organizers and amazing people that put this together.
to Yemi and Oyebola, God bless you both for cultivating a space to encounter God and light us all on fire for the Lord. love you both!
Lord, i am your instrument
what music do you want me to play?
what is it next you want me to say?
sing to me oh Lord
i want to hear your songs
your melodies always settle my soul
filling the gaps and making me feel oh so whole
i am here Lord
i am listening now
you have my full attention
i am your instrument Lord
through You
what sounds do you want me to make?
what hearts do you want me to shake?
what change do you want me to create?
i hear you from afar
whispering the words of John
“that all of them may be one, Father,
just you are in me, I am in you.”
your words reverberate to the depths
of my soul
i praise you God, for your heart,
for
Jesus
who sparks a fire in me
to uphold your one
ness
i promise to answer your call
with a resounding
yes
Oh Lord i am here as your instrument
sanctify me so every moment of everyday
i walk closer to You
to be more like Christ
rid me of a callous heart
help me trade self righteousness for
your righteousness
protect me Lord
protect me from the enemy
who shoots arrows of temptation at my flesh
protect me with your Holy Spirit
remind me with your power of your words
that as you once breathed to Paul
“I have been crucified with Christ
and I no longer live but Christ lives in me”
I am your instrument Lord
speak to me so strongly that
my only response is obedience
and i move with such expedience
Lord, what words do you want me to say?
open me up and put your heart’s eyes in my hands
what hearts do you want me to see with your eyes?
how do i use my own brokenness to heal others
and be a testimony to your goodness
your presence is just so humbling
as David once wrote in Chronicles
“who am I, Lord God, and what is my family
that you have brought me this far?”
i truly can’t believe how you have
brought me so far
i have done nothing to deserve this
the only response to exalt you
to praise you
to worship you
to surrender it all to you
because Lord
i am your instrument
what is it that you want me to hear?
cleanse my ears so i can hear like Jesus
amplify the sounds of the things i don’t want
to hear
but must hear and then follow
because if i don’t i will just end up
feeling hollow
i want to be a man who pleases you
a man after your heart
an instrument of your love
let my melody play with sounds of
a double fisted faith
that draws people oh so closer to you
give me the strength to rebuke
the whispers of the enemy
who taunts and tempts me with the old
patterns of the need to strive
when through you i can do nothing
but thrive
i see the pure beauty of your face
inviting you to be the conductor
of my song
you love me so much i can do
nothing wrong
and if i do make a mistake
i will take it as a
mis
take
because through your grace
i always have it me to repent
and then write a new song
so Lord
i am here
an open vessel
handing you the baton
to be the conductor in the orchestra of life
oh Lord, you are our great God above
i am listening now for your sound
speak to me
so i know how to be
a testament
a testament to a man once lost
who now leaps at the chance
to shout to the world
i love you Lord
my Lord my God
and i will always be
your
instrument
